Kreno was the son of Dirk and Tillie Klinger Van Hoorn and he married Annie, who was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Heidebrink Jansen. The couple farmed and they were active members of the Hope Reformed Church. They had one son,Willard, who married Dorothy DeGroot. She died in an auto accident.

Later, Kreno married Mae, who was Annie's sister and they had one son, Larry, who died in an auto accident.
