"Harms, Theodore "Ted" - Marie Ackerman

Ted, the son of Bruno B. and Annie Meyerhoff Harms, married Marie, who was the oldest daughter of Peter an Anna Symens Ackerman. Ted was a dedicated farmer and he served in the Navy during World War II. Marie was a beautician andoperated her own beauty shop in two locations, mentioned in the business section of this book. She purchased the shop from Mrs. Gladys Ripley. Later she had her shop at their farm in the country. The couple encouratged their childrento take part in 4-H and Marie helped set up the Lyonettes for the girls. Ted served on the county fair board.

The family said Ted did a lot of work on the farm house where they lived, inccluding taking out a number of doors, as the house had seven doors when they bought it. It also had two stairways to go up to the second floor and he replacedthose as well as digging a new basement. As many other young farmers did in the late 1940's, he had to put in electricity and plumbing."

[Pg. 150, col. 2]

"The farm family was featured in the Des Moines Register one year and the article was entitled 'Make It Work', showcasing young farm families.

Ted obtained a US patent for one of his many inventions (a wagon end-gate). He served on many local boards including the school board, the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church session and the Good Samaritan board.

The couple and their children all graduated from the local high school. The children are Judy, James and Marcia (m. Ronald Klimes). Marcia and her husband are still on the farm."
