John was the son of Leonard and Harmky Ackerman Van Briesen and he married Bertha, who was the daughter of Albertus and Flora Krull Kruger. John worked for Ackerman Concrete and the Farmers Elevator in George. They lived in town whereRoger and Carol Christians now live.

The couple were the parents of six children: Norma (m. Virgil Grave), Dwayne (m. Dorothy Bosh), Lowell (m. Darlene Schaa), Beverly (m. Robert Kolthoff), Dennis (m. Pat Kruger) and Randy (m. Marla Hansmann)."
