Note: "John and Dena lived the first three years of their married life on a dairy farm near Cedar Falls in Black Hawk County. One of John's duties was to deliver fresh milk to the residents of Cedar Falls. Then they moved back to Butler Countyand farmed in Albion Township.

In 1911 they bought a farm in Jackson Township, section 27, southeast quarter and northeast quarter south fort. Here they lived and raised their eight children. John died in 1940 and Dena died in 1949. Several years after her death, thefarm was sold."
