"Inez A. Knock, age 91, of the Bryant/Willow Lake area, the widow of Arthur Knock, died peacefully with family at her side on Thursday, April 2, 2015 in the Parkview Care Center at Bryant where she had resided for nearly a month.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2015 from 5-7PM at the United Presbyterian Church in Willow Lake and will continue at the Church on Saturday morning, April 11, 2015 after 11AM.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 1PM in the United Presbyterian Church at Willow Lake with The Reverend Dr. Lois Aroian officiating. Burial will follow in the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake.

She was born Inez Alice Hassebroek on October 22, 1923 at Claremont, SD, the 3rd child born to Walter and Geertje (Luitjens) Hassebroek. She grew up on a farm near Claremont and attended Public School. During her early years, the family moved to various farms in the area and when she was in the 8th grade they returned to the Amherst area and she graduated from Weston Consolidated School at Amherst in 1941. After her high school graduation, she received a scholarship to attend the American School of Commerce in Omaha, NE. Upon graduation from that school, she began working at the First State Bank in Pierpont, SD in May of 1943.

In May of 1944 she moved to Lennox and worked at the Exchange Bank in Lennox. It was in this community she met her future husband, Arthur Leon Knock and was united in marriage to him on February 22, 1947 at his parents' home in Lennox. They lived and farmed near Lennox, milking cows, raising hogs and had a large flock of laying hens.

On March 1, 1957, the family moved to a farm near Willow Lake, where Art had more land to farm, no chickens, but expanded their dairy herd, later being accepted as Grade A Milk Producers, a venture that continued for over 30 years. Even while living on the farm, raising 7 children, and assisting with many farm chores, in 1970 she began work at the Clark Potato Plant until 1972. Inez then went to work at the Bryant Nursing Home. After completion of an 18 month correspondence course, she began the Dietary Supervisor at the Care Center, a career that she continued until 1981.

Inez has always been known as a care-giver, and starting in 1982 began a child care business in her home, first with grandchildren, and later expanded into many others in the area, something she did for 20 years. When the Willow Lake Day Care opened in May of 2002, she assisted there to help them get started. She also looked after elderly in her home over the years as well, something she thoroughly enjoyed doing.

Her faith has been a very important part of her life, she often said, "My faith has always been the center of my life". She has been a faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church at Willow Lake, teaching Sunday School, catechism and Bible School. She had served as the Sunday School Secretary-Treasurer, and also held offices in the Church Women's groups, locally and state wide. She and her husband enjoyed various trips together, especially a trip to Spain in 1970. Art died suddenly on March 5, 1997.

Inez will long be remembered for her love of reading, cooking and baking, especially homemade breads and rolls. Her whole wheat bread and raisin filled cookies were second to none. She enjoyed gardening, canning, freezing and even dehydrating and drying vegetables. Other favorite pastimes were quilting, making rugs and embroidery work. She loved staying busy and was a very generous host to many.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, a son-in-law, Doc Westling; siblings, Arend (Helen), Henry (Deloris), and Frederick "Fritz" (Jean) Hassebroek, Katie (Wayne) Knock and Frances (Pat) Behnke. Also preceding her in death were sisters-in-law, Ardelle (Alvin) Timmerman and Marlys (Andrew) DeVries and brother-in-law, Arvid Beilke.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Paul (Laurie) Knock of Willow Lake, Roger (Sharry) Knock of DeSmet, Ruth Westling of Alcester, Tebbo Knock of Brookings, Richard (Crystal) Knock of Bryant, Wallace (Kathy) Knock of Willow Lake and Ardy (Marty) Conway of Arroyo Grande, CA; 12 grandchildren, Arrin (Lane), Rorie (Tyler), Derik (Tricia) Lindsay (Jeff), Tena (Brian), Molly (Bryce), Katarina (Lance), Hannah, Eric (Roxanne), Jared (Kati), Ashley (Tony), and Jennifer (Joe), 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Grayce Beilke of Aberdeen and a sister-in-law, Evelyn (Harold) Whirledge of Bryant.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials in her memory given to the Union Gospel Mission in Sioux Falls or to the Collins Cemetery, %Lucille Birkholtz at 42341 193rd Street, Willow Lake, SD 57278

Funeral arrangements are with the Furness Funeral Home at Clark where there is an on-line registry at www.furnessfuneralhome.com"
