He was the son of Robert and Elizabeth (Wrangler) Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter lived most his life in Ashland where he retired from Bosch after 25 years being maintenance supervisor. He previously worked for F.E. Myers. He was a member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed radio control cars, his motorcycle, cooking and car shows.

On Feb. 8, 1991, he married Betty (Goodwin) Carpenter, who survives.

Also surviving are his son, David Carpenter of Ashland County; his daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl Carpenter of Ashland County, Betty and Roscoe Bair of Ashland, Virginia and Francis Piatt of Ashland, Shirley and Marvin Simmons of North Augusta, S.C., Cindy and Manny Daniels of Ashland, Heather and Jon Ward of Ashland, Laura and Larry Goon of Ashland; son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Darlene Schuck; brother, Alan Carpenter of Norwalk; four sisters, Angie Carpenter of Ashland, Joyce Weisenberger of Norwalk, Becky (Kevin) Vorst of Continental and Mickey (Jeff) Shepherd of Greenwich; 16 grandchildren, Tony Simmons, Stacy and Jason Keener, Jessica and Justin Piatt, Andrew and Ashley Simmons, Spencer Daniels, Riley and Chase Carpenter, Stephanie Schuck, Skyler and Coral Ann Ward, and Sophie, Holly and Molly Goon; and one great-grandchild, Kahlen Simmons.

Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Connie Carpenter.

"Stephen A. Carpenter, age 65 of Ashland, died Sunday November 9, 2008 at the Hospice House. He was born in Cleveland on November 18, 1942, the son of Robert and Elizabeth (Wrangler) Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter has lived most all of his life in Ashland where he retired from Bosch after 25 years being Maintenance Supervisor, he had previously worked for F.E. Myers. Sixteen grandchildren also survive, Tony Simmons, Stacy and Jason Keener, Jessica and Justin Piatt, Andrew and Ashley Simmons, Spencer Daniels, Riley and Chase Carpenter, Stephanie Schuck, Skyler and Coral Ann Ward, and Sophie, Holly and Molly Goon, and one great grandchild Kahlen Simmons.

Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his parents and sister Connie Carpenter.

Services will be held at Heyl Funeral Home on Wednesday November12, 2008 at 11:30 p.m. with Pastor Bill Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday November 11, 2008 from 7 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805."
