I was able to get in touch with Ray and Dorothy. It is hard to do so most of the time. They no longer have a home phone - only cell phones and Ray cannot hear his and Dorothy doesn't answer hers most of the time. Anyway, Dorothy's is 573-694-6863 and Ray's is 573-821-6863 - yes they are the same last 4 digits. ... Dororhy was in the hospital for a week with double pneumonia and bronchitis. She came home a week ago yesterday and is still having home health care come in for checking on her and she is still taking nebulizer treatments at home. ... Pam"

"Dorothy Mae Sleper of California, MO, was born on April 3, 1937, and went to be with her Lord on October 28, 2023, at the age of 86. She enjoyed her final months here on earth with her 'family' at Valley Park West Retirement Living. Dorothy grew up in the Pilot Grove area but spent most of her adult life farming with her husband in Clarksburg, MO, and then retired in California, MO.
For most of her life, Dorothy was a member of the United Church of Christ, serving alongside her husband and teaching in the children's ministries. She also worked various jobs during her lifetime: 10 years at the Weber Shoe factory, 25 years at the Chesebrough-Ponds, Inc. driver of the Moniteau County O.A.T.S. bus and for the disabled adults employed by the Moniteau County Sheltered Workshop. Dorothy was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sharing her creations of crocheting, sewing, quilting, and floral arranging. In addition to collecting dolls, Dorothy loved sewing doll clothes for her granddaughters.
While Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Raymond in 2017, they spent over 60 wonderful years together farming, raising their family, and living out their faith. Along with her parents (Edward and Helen Roth) and younger brother (Raymond 'shorty' Roth), Dorothy was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janice Renee Sleper, on February 7, 1962.
Dorothy is survived by sons James (Pamela) Sleper of Lampe, MO, Daryl Sleper of Lenexa, KS and daughter Jolene (Robert) Bodnovich of Valley View, OH; five grandchildren, Joshua (Amy) Sleper of South St. Paul, MN, Danies (Katharina) Sleper of Ames, IA, Elizabeth (Adam) Carpenter of Parma, OH, Justin Bodnovich of Valley View, OH, and Allison Bodnovich of Valley View, OH. Dorothy is also blessed with five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Additionally, she is survived by two brothers, Charlie and Bobbie Roth, and one sister, Mary Twenter.
