Ellen's last name was identified in the obituary of her son, Robert. It lists his father's name as John, which conflicts with Thomas, listed in the 1920 US Census. Robert's obituary appeared in the 2/10/2000 Lennox Independent, Lennox,South Dakota:

Services were held on Tuesday, February 1, 2000, at First Presbyterian Church in Elbow Lake, MN, for Robert Dale Grayson, 88, of Alexandria, MN, who died Saturday, January 29, 2000, at his home. Officiating was the Rev. William O. GilbertIII. Burial was in the Union Cemetery at Elbow Lake.

Robert Dale Grayson was born on a farm near Larabee in Cherokee County, Iowa, on November 12, 1911, a son of John and Ellen (Pierce) Grayson.

Mr. Grayson moved to the Elbow Lake, MN, area in 1938. He was united in marriage to Engeline Wiebel at Christ Lutheran parsonage north of Elbow Lake on December 21, 1939. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Erdahl and Barrettareas until 1969, when Mrs. Grayson passed away.

In 1974, he married Mathilda Klinghagen in Sioux Falls.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Annie; and five brothers: Harold, Max, Carl Vincent, William, and Burdette “Bud” Grayson. He is survived by one daughter, Kay Olson of Alexandria; two sons: Daryle Grayson of Phoenix, AZ, and Allen (Rebecca) Grayson of Andover, MN; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Verla Abbas of Canton, SD; formerwife, Mathilda Grayson of Sioux Falls, her four daughters and their families; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
