Terry Gene Schutjer was born September 18, 1935, the son of Clarence and Leona (Kuchenreuther) Schutjer, in Mason City, IA. He grew up in Titonka and graduated from Titonka High School in 1953. After high school, he helped his dad and uncles out on the farm until he was drafted into the United States Army on February 12, 1957. Terry was proud to serve his country, and he was honorably discharged on February 11, 1959.

Following his time in the Army, he came back to Titonka to help his dad farm. Terry was united in marriage on August 18, 1961, to Verna Gray. Eventually, he took over the farm, where he grew corn and soybeans, milked cows, and raised pigs. Terry retired in 1998, but he continued to help on the family farm until 2009.

Terry's greatest enjoyment in life was his family. He was a loving man who always put his family first. He shared a very special bond with his children, always wanting to be involved in their activities. Terry enjoyed playing cards and watching the Packers and Dodgers.

Terry died Sunday, November 1, 2020, at MercyOne Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City. He was 85.

He is survived by his wife Verna of Titonka; children, Jeff and his wife Brenda (Meyer) Schutjer of Titonka, Becky and her husband Aaron Kinser of Watkins, Greg and his wife Amy (Neuroth) Schutjer of Titonka, and Jeri and her husband Adam Grabin of Oxford; grandchildren, Derek (Katie Kitzman) Schutjer, Stacey (Zach) Myers, Rachel and Robert Kinser, Gwen and Alandra Schutjer, and Wes and Hannah Grabin; sister, Sharon (Fred) Hofmann of Titonka; brother-in-law, Ernie James of Alta; sister-in-law, Garlene Schmidt of Bancroft; special dog, Annie; and many nieces and nephews.
