1878 Itemizer Newspaper Extract, Polk County, Oregon, compiled by Clara Foster and Justine Jones, page 42, Friday July 19, 1878: From Easter Oregon. W. M. Lyle, Frank Coad, Frank Rowell and Milt. Cook returned from east of the mountainslast Saturday. They passed through Prineville and reached their destination, Trout Creek, without seeing any hostiles, although they met numerous wagons bound for Prineville, and advising them to turn back, that the Indians were 'justahead.'

Saturday, October 12, 1878: Mr. Thomas Cook and three sons, 'Bud' and George Hagood, Pierce Clingan and Ben. Harris left for Eastern Oregon and Washington Territory, last week. Tuesday last, Frank Coad and Levi Scott left for east of themountains. A farewell party was given the two last named young gentlemen at the Parsons' House Monday night which was attended by a large number of young people. (etc.)
