It was about 23:00 when Katherine called to say her father-in-law had passed away.

Terry had been taken to the hospital in Sallisaw, OK. They stablized him and sent him to the hospital in Ft. Smith, AR. No one was expecting his death so soon. He had a brain annurism. He was suffering from cancer and would have passed into Eternal Life from it.

Katherine thinks the plans are for cremation with a memorial service possibly on Friday, 4 December 2009.

Funeral services for Terry Mathis, 62, of Vian, are being held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Vian School Auditorium, under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Sallisaw.

Mr. Mathis was born Oct. 13, 1947, in Miami, to Earl Mathis and Lula Cowells. He died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, in Fort Smith, Ark.

Mr. Mathis worked in law enforcement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War. He attended Round Mountain Church.

Survivors include his wife,

Lora Diane of the home; two daughters, Terri Mathis Smarr and her husband, Michael, of Russellville, Ark. and Misty Mathis of Dardenelle, Ark.; one son, Robert Mathis and his wife, Katherine, of Grove; one brother, Elwood Allen of Vian;and six grandchildren, Ryan Mathis, Tyler Mathis, Brianna Gamble, Branda Gamble, Hunter Gamble and Aiden Smarr.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers."

Military: U.S. Army - Viet Nam War. He served in S. Viêt Nam.

Cremation - the urn with his ashes were placed in Diane's coffin.
