Hi,

I know you don't know me, but I was searching for information on my family tree and noticed an error in yours. Julia Benic (Havlik) was not Edward Benic's mother. His mother was Susie (Susan?) Panik, she died in child birth sometime afterEd was born. I haven't been able to find any additional information on her though. Steve and Julia Benic were my great grandparents."

I don't know much about Steve Benic or Julia, no one seems to know anything from before either of them got to this country. The story I've heard before is Steve said he came to the USA twice, after having a hard time getting back here thesecond time he decided not to leave. He did serve in the military, in the cavalry and rode against Pancho Villa in Mexico. Unfortunately, all of those records were lost in a fire at the military base where they were stored. And anythingthat Steve might have had from that time period was probably destroyed when the family home burnt down in I think the 1930's or 1940's. Steve and Julia had two children, one of which is still living.

Ed died in 1991 but I think you already had that on your tree. I think a copy of his birth certificate is on familysearch.org. He didn't have a birth certificate until he was a teenager, when Steve requested it when they lived in Clare,MI from Cook County, IL. He fought in WWII, I was told he was turned down for certain missions because he had an uncle (Steve's brother) on the other side of the Iron Curtain. I haven't been able to find out Steve's brother's name or hisparents or really much else about Steve." <>
