Notes about John Houchins

Misunderstandings: This page, written by hand and therefore given total credibility as factual, is lacking in some details. The first person named is the son of Edward and Aner Houchin. John married Martha Orford in 1748 as indicated. They had a son in the same year. John was left out of his father's will. WHY? Because he had committed a major sin in those days. He had fathered a child OUT of wedlock, and to make matters worse, the mother was an indentured servant who had come to America five years earlier. This item states John who was born in 1748 married Patsy Alford or Olford. The fact is, he married Martha "Patsy" Wright, the daughter of Benjamin Wright as acknowledged in Benjamin Wrights will. This fact is corroborated by the fact that John and Patsy had a son named Benjamin Wright Houchin who wound up in Indiana. The death date for the first John is probably close because there is no definite date for his demise, only the assumption that he passed before his children headed out to other places than Amherst County, VA. - Larry Names
