Tijdens de tweede wereldoorlog maakte hij zich zo kwaadop de Duitse bezetters omdat ze alle bomen in de straat omkapte, dat hijoverleed aan een hartaanval. Kees en Geertje woonde toen in deOranjeboomstraat.
