Notes about Flora Agnes Colquhoun

from tandcshearer:
I'll share my tree with you so you should receive an email soon. As it was my Great Aunt, Flora Agnes Colquhoun, who married into the Rennie family we will not be related but we will have a lot in common in our family trees.

George Barrie Rennie was known as "Dode" Rennie. A few years ago his daughter in law told me that Dode was in Ledrishbeg approximately 1929-1933 but as he had rheumatism his doctor suggested he move to a drier climate on the East coast of Scotland. He moved to Rosewell in Midlothian which is near to where the family previously lived. However about four years later his brother (I don't know which one) persuaded him to come back to the West of Scotland to take over at Westerhill. After Dode left Ledrishbeg his younger brother Richard Milner Rennie known as "Dick" moved into the farm. Dick's son Richard is still in Ledrishbeg.

I was born and brought up near to these farms and have been to most of them many years ago with my father. I still live in Scotland in the Shetland Islands but I visit my home area every year.

Please let me know if your cousin David can identify any of the people in the photo. I have names for some but I'm not sure if they are all correct.

email from Cathy (tandcshearer) of Ancestry 28 Sep 2019 :

"Am I correct in thinking your 2nd Great Grandfather William Rennie (1830-1912) would have been William Rennie's (1882-1959) uncle. William was married to my Great Aunt Flora Agnes Colquhoun.

I can remember a few of the Rennie family. George at Westerhill Farm who died a few years ago and also his brother Andrew near Stirling. Alastair at Geilston Farm I remember too. When my dad left school in the 1920's he worked for George Barrie Rennie at Ledrishbeg Farm. There is still a member of the Rennie family in this farm - Richard. My Dad was good friends with a number of the Rennie family.

I've attached the photo I mentioned. I think there's quite a few of the Rennie family in it. The photo was taken outside the Bath Hotel in Glasgow in 1914. We had the photo in our house but I never knew anything about it so I've had to do some detective work to find out some information about the identity of the people.
