He took part in engagements at Rangariri and Ngarawhaia and was wounded in the thigh he was an expert swordsman. When his Regiment left for England George and others deserted and disappeared into the bush, a warrent was issued for his arrest dead or alive, he did use other names but later was given a pardon,he later worked at the Thames, NZ goldmine for 7 yrs. George aged 30 married Maria Anna Wech 18 in Thames NZ. He bought 200 acres at a shilling / acre at Streamlands near Kaipara Flats<br>Military Service: Private - in the 58th Regiment of Foot - the Rutlandshires.
