Captain in the SC Fifth Regiment. Surgeon in Francis Marion's (Swamp Fox) Brigade Lived in Prince Fredericks Parish, SC about 2 miles from the Black River. Elected to represent Prince Fredericks Parish in the House of Representatives in 1782 in 1782 ( the first Legislature to be elected after the departure of the British) Married two times 1st Margaret Thompson, 2nd Rebekah Smith.o Lt. Col. John White and asked for help against the Indians; Lt. Col. John White wrote to Gov. Lyttelton himself and enclosed the letter from Thomas Potts. Then, in 1775, Thomas Potts was on the committee to enforce the non-importation, non-exportation, non-conumption agreements against England after the meeting of the first South Carolina Provincial Congress. Thomas Potts is listed among those of the Prince Frederick Church who had withdrawn and united with the Black Mingo and Indiantown Presbyterian Churches prior to 1778, when Prince Frederick was closed.r. He entered the Army as a private and rose to a Captaincy. He was a doctor, serving as a surgeon in Marion's Brigade and attaining the rank of Captain. Captain Thomas Potts commanded the 5th Regiment SC during the Revolutionary War. He was elected to represent Prince Frederick Parish in the House of Representatives in 1782; this was the first legislature to be elected after the departure of the British. A claim was issued 24 May 1785 to Mr. Thomas Potts by the Continental Congress for 15 Pounds Sterling for a boat burnt by order of General Marion in 1781. (No. 293, Book R).
