Their six children are recorded in the St. Elizabeth records at baptism as ‘quadroon’ and ‘mulatto’ including Richard IV ( a mulatto/ quadroon son), born in 14 January, 1779; €˜Southfield Penn’ lands went to his younger sister, the 18-year-old Mary, and her soon-to-be husband, the then-British Army Captain Andrew Bromfield, the family’s Scottish-born former Overseer. It should be noted that in 1784, Bromfield, a senior Overseer on the Southfield plantation, was a witness to his boss' Will, and it seems that he made good of the opportunity to marry the heiress.ource.
