Notes about Joshua NOT CONFIRMED (Joshua NOT CONFIRMED) Barnett, Sr.

Thanks, Lyn. Yes we have spoken before. We also discussed the issue of James D. Barnett not being the son of Joshua Barnett (because Joshua's descendants stated that James D. was not listed in Joshua's will.) I was able to meet with the Breathitt County Professor/Town Historian; he gave me proof that James D. Barnett is Joshua's son and took me to the cemetery where they are both buried (next to each other.)

You have to contact the genealogical society of Breathitt County Kentucky. You can find them on line. Steve Bowling is the genealogist for the area and the information is their. You can probably e-mail them. But he confirms James D. Barnett is the son of Joshua Barnett.

Joshua Barnett Sr. born 1785 Virginia and Died 1843 Breathitt County Kentucky. Believe to have married Mary Truman born about 1787 Virginia and died 1860 Breathitt County Kentucky. The couple married 1809 in Kentucky.Their children were Joshua Barnett Jr., William Barnett, James D. Barnett b. 1815, married to Barbara Angel, d. 1864 Breathitt County Kentucky, Francis Barnett and Sarah Barnett.

I have been researching the Joshua Barnett b. 1785 VA d. 1843 Breathitt KY for many yrs. I did not know that Mary's maiden name was Truman. Is there any documentation listed?

I decend from Joshua's son David b. 1817 Perry Co. KY died 1863 Breathitt. My notes for David show he was killed in 1863 by Captain Strong's men for no apparent reason.

I have never been able to place James D as Joshua Sr's son. I would love to talk by email.

The Breathitt County Library did the research on him and said his father was Joshua Barnett Sr. That is all I have to go on with him. I know Joshua Barnett Sr. married a woman named Mary. His son Joshua Jr married Jane Hayes who is part of my father's side of the family. He had other sons, Harmon, David, and a couple of others, plus a daughter named Francis.
