Pender Bros' sawmill on Wednesday last. The evidence showed that deceased had been employed by the Messrs. Pender Bros. at their timber works. At the time of the accident he was sawing a strip of wood to fit to a beehive. In lifting the wood from the bench deceased allowed it to come into contact with the teeth of the revolving circular saw, and it was hurled with tremendous force against his breast. He uttered a cry and staggered backwards. Mr. R. L. Pender rushed forward and caught the injured boy in his arms. Deceased was carried into Mr. Pender's house, and medical aid was summoned immediately. Within half an hour Dr. Liddell arrived, and found that Branscombe was suffering very severely from shock, and was in great pain. An examination disclosed contused wound an inch square slightly to the right of the lower end of the chest bone. The lad retained consciousness until death ensued at half past 9 o'clock on Saturday morning. The medical gentleman stated that death was due to syncope, resulting from hemorrhage of the stomach, and said he believed the stomach was ruptured. Deceased was 17 years of age, and was the son of Mr. George Branscombe, bricklayer, of West Maitland. The jury found that death was due to accident.ticle134881991
