    LifeSketch: Robert Barnhill apparently apprenticed as a watchmaker and advertised his wares in periodicals published from 1776, 1777 and 1778. In 1778 he married Elizabeth Potts. Her brother William Luken Potts (1771-1854) was also a maker of watches and compasses. Robert and Elizabeth Potts Barnhill are notably the great-grandparents of President Theodore Roosevelt.780 Robert Barnhill enlisted in the Sixth Pennsylvania Regiment, Colonel Humpton's Company of the Continental Army. He was among the recruits primarily from Philadelphia and bordering counties who shored up furloughed members of the 5th Pennsylvania Regiment which had been captured at Fort Washington in 1776. Robert Barnhill served a standard seven months in and around Philadelphia.
