Born April 22nd, 1922 in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late George Henry and Gladys May (Lunergan) MacDonald. Bert joined the Army during the second World War as “boy soldier” and had a long career with the civil service spending many years working at Base Supply at CFB Gagetown. He also received the privilege of being the Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the 31 Service Battalion in Saint John, a position he held for several years. Bert is a member of the Oromocto Sports Wall of Fame, being inducted in the builders category. Notably, he was one of the founders of minor hockey and baseball in Oromocto and held several positions in the New Brunswick Amateur Hockey Association. Bert is survived by his sons, Gary MacDonald (Deborah) of Saint John, NB and Dr. Wayne MacDonald (Kathy) of Oromocto, NB; grandchildren, Jennifer, Elizabeth and Sean; siblings, Harry and Shirley and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Theresa and siblings, Bill and Bob. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church in Oromocto on Thursday, December 6th, 2012 at 2:00 pm with Canon Walter Williams officiating. A private interment will be held at a later time. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bert may be made to the NB Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or charity of the donor's choice.
