But it was still an attractive place to start over, especially if you were from such beleaguered countries such as Scotland and Ireland. Enter Phillip McDonnold. Born in 1740, one family history suggests his country of birth was Scotland, little is known about Phillip expect that he was married and had six children.by this point possibly all six by then. Phillip would not see America. Phillip passed away on the voyage and was buried at sea at about the age of 40, leaving his wife and children to venture forth alone in a new country.1). It's possible Sally (Sarah) was born at sea, Polly would have been only one or two years old.
