    LifeSketch: Joseph Ashley (1652-1698)otoriety nearly caused a seperation. His wife Mary made a application for a divorce in 1687, but they had reconciled and lived together untill his death. The son of Joseph and Deborah was born 16 Apr. 1686, and his name Jabez, Deborah married in 1692 James Gearald and he died seven years later. She lived for several years and was a nurse. Their son Jabez settled in Springfield and when he became of age he changed his name to his real father's name Joseph Ashley. Joseph the father, inherited all of his fathers land in West Springfield, which made him a considerable landowner. He was a town constable in 1682, appeared as attorney in court several times.
