The name of Dúngal's mother is not known, she is only identified as a "woman of Leinster". Dugal is identified as Kenneth's 2nd son, younger brother of Malcolm II. They may have also had 2 additional brothers: Boite mac Cináeda, and Suibne mac Cináeda.
