Looked after by his aunt and uncle, when orphaned, together with his brother, Carel Benedictus Ziervogel and sister Christina Johanna. His aunt was his mother's sister, Beatrix and his uncle, his father's brother, Egidius. Member of The Cape Parliament for Graaff-Reinet 1854-73 After his retirement from parliament he settled in Pretoria, Transvaal where he died in 1882 aged 80, being a bank manager. he had a large family.
