James was a younger son of James Butler and Lady Joan Fitzgerald. He passed away in 1592. Crown during the Dissolution of the Monasteries following the English Reformation. When his son, James, died without having a son himself, the lands of Duiske reverted to his uncle Thomas Butler, 10th Earl of Ormond.
