Helen was baptised at St. Peter's Church, 327 Gorham St. Lowell, MA on May 20, 1904. She worked in the woollen mill in Lowell, she married Albert Patrick Chase in 1924,

Lowell, they had three daughters Patricia, Helene, and Mona Chase. In the 1920s her mother Annie McIver McCaughey, with the help of her best friend and neighbour Bridget Rourke Chase, bought a cottage on the corner of J Street and 95 Ocena Ave, Hampton Beach, NH.

Bridget's son Albert was a carpenter and he built the cottage up, it became a popular tourist destination called The Lincoln House. Today it is known as McGuirk's Ocean View.
