Eliza Pease Livington Deery was born February 10, 1827, at Brownhelm, Lorain County, Ohio, daughter of Peter Pindar Pease, born in Massachusetts and Ruth Crocker Pease, born in New York. She spent her early life in Oberlin in the same county, where she received her education. She died October 10, 1906, at Rice Lake, Wisconsin, aged 79 years and eight months, and was buried there next to her husband in Nora Cemetery.

On May 10, 1864, Eliza was united in marriage to James Deery by P. H. Foster, J.P., in Dunn Township, Dunn County, Wisconsin. James was born August 9, 1836, in New York City, New York, son of Bernard & Marie or Jane Deery, both born in Ireland. He died April 20, 1888, in Rice Lake, Barron County, Wisconsin, aged 51 years, 8 months and 11 days, and was buried there in Nora Cemetery. At the time of their marriage, James was Deputy Sheriff of Dunn County. James and Eliza's known children, both born in Wisconsin, were:
