Elizabeth Ann Stonehouse
Elizabeth Ann was born on 2 December 1865 after the family had moved to Blackwell Mill. She was 12 years old when her mother died and she appears to have lived with her widower father until her marriage in 1891 to fitter, John William Hope.
The marriage was registered at Hartlepool. Just after they married, the couple moved into 18 Stephenson Street, Darlington. They had two children, a son Fred in 1894, and a daughter Elsie Mary in 1897.
In 1901 the family were living at 67 Surtees Street, Darlington and remained there up to 1911. John died on 13 April 1935 aged 74.
His address at that time was 11 Hazel Avenue, Darlington. Probate was granted at Durham on 29 January 1936 to Fred Hope, assistant stores manager and William Henry Cuthbertson, railway clerk. Effects totalled £509 15s. 5d. Elizabeth Ann died on 15 December 1942 aged 77. They are both buried in West Cemetery, Darlington.
Their son, Fred, married Mildred Thompson Newton in Darlington in 1925. There is no evidence they had any children. Mildred died in Surrey in 1967 aged 71. It isn't known where Fred died or when.
Fred's sister, Elsie Mary Hope, married William Henry Cuthbertson in 1924. They had a daughter in 1927.
Elsie died in 1946 aged 49. William died on 14 December 1962 in Darlington Memorial Hospital aged 64. His home address was 12 Bracken Road, Darlington.
Probate was granted at Durham on 25 February 1963 to his daughter. Effects totalled £2,367 7s. His daughter married Francis William Shepherd in 1946 and they had five children, three daughters and two sons. Francis died in 1996 aged 70.
