Notes about Francis Dulude "Frank" (Francis Dulude "Frank") Larkin

Military Life and after

As a Captain in France with the 22nd Illinois Engineers, he was commander of a truck company and served at St Mihiel Drive and the 2nd Battle of the Marne.

When the war ended, he travelled around France seeing to the disposal of army trucks and equipment As a result he obtained a lasting love of the French people and physically appreciated the chance to visit the town of Le Lude where his own ancestors lived before they went to Canada.

He was among the last contingent who returned home aboard the troopship USS Nansemond, - His photo and a short biography can be seen aboard the ship with some other officers on the Internet. He went to France as a Lieutenant as a result of the R.O.T.C training he had taken to help him graduate in 1913 with a BSC. from the University of Illinois..the first one of his family to do so.

He was 31 years old in 1919 and went home to his former job with a roofing company who sent him to Cleveland in 1920, where he met and married Ethel Delaney.

A wise, courageous but gentle man, he was steeped in world history, philosophy and politics. He struggled through the Depression like many others to participate as a civilian government employee in the second War of 1941-45 ...

He was a citizen who loved his country and his wife and imbued his principles into the minds and hearts of his two children.
