Floris II, Count of Holland (1091-1121) or Floris the Fat, was the first from the native dynasty of Holland to be called Count of Holland.

He was the son of his predecessor Dirk V and Othilde. Floris II ended the conflict with the Bishop of Utrecht (which he inherited from his father, and should be seen in light of the power struggle between the Pope and the Holy Roman Emperor), most likely by becoming his vassal. In 1101 he was endowed with the title of Count of Holland ('comes de Hollant', up until that time the counts' dominion had been officially referred to as Frisia).
Around 1108, Floris II married Gertrude, the daughter of Thierry II, the Duke of Lorraine. Gertrude changed her name to Petronila (which is derived from Peter), in recognition of her loyalty to the Holy See. Petronila and Floris II had four children, three boys and one girl: Dirk, Floris, Simon and Hedwig, respectively. Dirk became his successor, Dirk VI of Holland, while Floris became known as Floris the Black and contested his brother's power.

Hij volgde in 1091 zijn vader op. Omstreeks 1108 huwde hij met Geertruida, de dochter van de hertog van Opper-Lotharingen en halfzuster van de Duitse Koning Lotharius van Supplinburg. Zij overleefde haar man ruimschoots en overleed op 23-05-1144 waarna zij te Rijnsburg werd begraven.
Waarschijnlijk al bij haar huwelijk veranderde zij haar naam van Geertruida in Petronella.Hiermee heeft zij vermoedelijk beoogd om zo haar verbondenheid met Petrus en de Heilige Stoel te benadrukken. Uit het huwelijk van Floris IIen Petronilla zijn vier kinderen bekend: Dirk die later als Dirk VI zijn vader opvolgde, Floris die bekend werd als Floris de Zwarte, Simon die kanunnik te Utrecht werd en een dochter genaamd Hadewig. Floris II werd in 1101 als eerste met de titel 'graaf van Holland' vermeld. Daarvoor werd de streek van de graven nog als Friesland aangeduid. Hij was waarschijnlijk leenman van de Bisschop van Utrecht. Over zijn uiterlijk is bekend dat hij buitengewoon zwaarlijvig was hetgeen hem de bijnaam "de Vette" opleverde. Ook wordt hij omschreven als schatrijk. Deze rijkdom was grotendeels verkregen uit de inkomsten van veenontginningen en tolheffing aan de monding van de grote rivieren. Tijdens zijn bewind werden in het graafschap enkele reeds bestaande houten kerken vervangen door stenen kerken waarbij het materiaal, tufsteen, door hem vanuit de Rijnstreek werd geïmporteerd. Na zijn dood, op nog jeugdige leeftijd, regeerde gravin Petronilla door met krachtige hand. Zij deed belangrijke schenkingen aan de abdij van Egmond
