The traditional version,from Hendrik van Slingeland Barthoutsz.'s "Genealogia Nobilissimae ac Vetustissimae Familiae de Slingelandt,c 1750,says Elisabeth van Slingelandt,daughter of Herbaren van Arkel and Odilia van Cuijk,married Jan van der Tijmpel. C.Sigmond,in 2001,523,deems this document unreliable,in spite of the list of three children procured from this marriage,including an Herbaren as brother to Elisabeth,and proposes Elisabeth's father was Jan van Slingeland,alderman of Gorinchem between 1301-15,possible son or bastard son of Otto,Lord of Slingeland 1263-77,knight 1277,cognatus(relative or cousin)of John(Jan),Lord Arkel. (Note:Herbaren van Arkel is of royal descent).
