Un des 40 plus importants actionnaires de la Société Générale en 1850. Immensément riche, il résidait au 3, place Royale à Bruxelles ou en son hôtel du 41, av des Arts (qui passera après son fils à Victor Claes). Cette famille fit fortune dans la compagnie hollandaise des Indes, était liée au commerce avec le Congo et les chemins de fer néérlandais. Il acquit le château de Dongelberg (Jodoigne) et le laissa à son fils (1827 - 1904). L'EPN 1995 ne dit pas qu'il a été autorisé à porter le nom Osy de Zegwaart, mais les classe dans la rubrique de ceux qui sont autorisés.
