Notes about Louis Flanzer

FLANZER--Louis, 94, of Scarsdale, New York, and Longboat Key, Florida, died at his Florida home, with his beloved wife Gloria Milstein Flanzer by his side. Born in Brooklyn, he had a quick mind and an independent spirit, and at six years old he was invited to join his adult neighbors playing chess in the park. As a sergeant in the army during World WarII he refused a promotion to stay with his men. After the war he re-joined Flanzer & Son, expanding the business for his father and his brother-in-law. He later became a successful real estate investor and an avid golfer. Facing a fear of flying in the 1960's, he conquered it by learning to fly himself. He got his pilot's license and then gave flying lessons to both his children. His huge smile and twinkling eyes lit up a room, and it was impossible not to smile along with him. He was always ready with a brilliant idea. His passion for the Brooklyn Dodgers survives today in his daughter and granddaughter as a true love of the game. His son, Richard, and Richard's children, David, Ryan, and Jordan Flanzer, will always recall his advice to pursue their dreams fearlessly and with determination.
