Notes about David Schouff

Behr or Bear/Dov and the young wife had six children: She left him for another man. It is my understanding that she took one of the children with her, but that Dov managed to retrieve the child. I do not know which one it was.was sent to Paris to learn how to make millinery at about 13 or 14 years of age. He had persuaded his fathe (Dov) to leave Warsaw and take the children to Palestine where they settled in Petah Tikvah and Dov became the town baker. He had been a musician, clarinet I believe and had actually lead a band at the Czr's coronation according to my father DavidMy father returned to Palestine hoping to make fezes for the Muslim population. But he found that the Ottoman Turkish government had a freeze of this commodity which they had made in Vienna for sale among the Arabs. It was decided that David would return to Paris to work. He purchased a ticket for travel on a Greek ship to take him to France. World War I broke out and instead the ship went to America. I have a copy from the National Archives Trust Fund, Washington, DC 20408 showing his arrival on S.S. "Themistocles" sailing from Patras and arriving in New York on 22 Auot 1914.---Had one of the earliest heart pacemakers implanted in Israel, c. 1976.
