Notes about Willem Vrugt

Trad op 04-07-1732 in dienst van de VOC als jongen (allerlei karweitjes aan boord) en voer uit op het schip Susanna naar Batavia. Op 12-2-1738 vertrok hij als Constapelsmaat (helper van de onderofficier, aan wie de zorg voor het geschut en de munitie was opgedragen) naar Ceylon. Op 17-02-1739 als derde stuurman op de Gaasperdam naar Batavia. Onderstuurman op de Herstelder (1742-1744). Op 21-01-1745 als schipper op de Weltevreden naar Ceylon. Op 27-10-1747 als schipper op de Osdorp naar Batavia en op 24-01-1749 op hetzelfde schip terug van Batavia naar Texel. Op 09-03-1753 als Kapitein (zeeman) op de Amstelveen naar Batavia, op 2-11-1754 als Kapitein (zeeman) op de Stadwijk naar Batavia. In 1755 werd hij door Willem Hendrik baron van Imhoff, Gouverneur Generaal van Ned. Indië, benoemd tot Commandeur ter zee. Als vlootcommandant vertrok hij op 30-10-1755 op de Stadwijk van Batavia naar Texel. Op 30-12-1757 voer hij als Kapitein (zeeman) op de Osdorp naar Bengalen. De laatste tocht onder zijn leiding was van Batavia naar Kaapstad. Dit volgt uit een brief van 12 februari 1762 van de Gouverneur en Raad van Kaap de Goede Hoop aan den Gouverneur-Generaal en Raad van Indiën: "De kapitein van het aanwezend retourschip de 'Gouverneur-Generaal' Willem Vrugt wordt benoemd tot equipagemeester te kaapstad in plaats van Hendrik Taal. Daarna laat hij zijn vrouw Suzanna Duijm overkomen, die echter in 1963 overlijdt.
Zijn twee oudste zoons Servaas en Willem gingen al heel jong ook naar zee. Servaas overleed op 10-06-1766 en Willem op 09-02-1763.
