Notes about Graaf Siegfried van Luxemburg

Siegfried van Luxemburg (922 - 15 augustus 998) was de eerste Graaf van Luxemburg. Rond 950 trouwde hij met zijn nichtje Hedwig van Nordgau. In 963 bouwde hij, als graaf in de Moezelgouw, nadat hij een strategisch gelegen plek door een goederenruil met de abdij van Sint Maximin te Trier verkregen had, een burcht op de plaats van de huidige stad Luxemburg, de tegenwoordige hoofdstad van het groothertogdom. Deze burcht werd geleidelijk het middelpunt van een groot landencomplex dat zich tot ver buiten de grenzen van het huidige groothertogdom uitstrekte. Bij zijn dood in 998 werd Siegfried opgevolgd door zijn oudste zoon Hendrik.Source 1
