      Jan II van Egmont (1385-1451) was een zoon van Arend van Egmont en Yolanda van Leiningen. Jan van Egmont was van 1423 tot 1433, regent van het hertogdom Gelre. Hij was gehuwd met Maria van Arkel, en was vader van:
      - Arnold (-1473)
      - Willem II (1412-1483), stadhouder van Gelre, in 1437 getrouwd met Walburga van Moers, dochter van graaf Frederik van Moers.

      Jan II van Egmont ook wel genaamd Jan met de bellen, wat sloeg op de belletjes op zijn harnas. De man was een vurig kabeljauw en dus vijand van Willem VI en Jacoba van Beieren. Hij verloor zijn landgoederen in de Arkelse oorlog en maakte zich na de dood van Willem VI meester van IJsselstein.

      Voor zijn zoon Arnold voerde hij het voogdschap als hertog van Gelre. Om dit te mogen doen, sloot hij een onderpand af voor de leningen verstrekt aan Jan van Beieren en Filips van Bourgondië. Daarvan kreeg hij de heerlijkheid Leerdam.
