Dirk Woutersz Duijn is op de Breesaap aangesteld door de ambachtsvrouwe
van Velsen om toe te zien op het onderhoud van de ringsloot om de
Breesaap en op het tijdig planten van helm in de Breesaaper duinen.

De Breesaap is een uitgestrekte en destijds vruchtbare duinvlakte van
ruim 243 hectare, die is gelegen in de gemeente Velsen tussen de
Noordzee en het toenmalige Wijkermeer. Volgens een opgave uit 1742
zouden er 8 boeren op de Breesaap woonachtig zijn. Het boerenbedrijf was
mogelijk door het vlakke terrein en een goede grondwaterbeheersing via
een gegraven ringsloot om de Breesaap, die uitwaterde op de Noordzee en
het Wijkermeer. De boeren op de Breesaap hadden veel last voor hun
gewassen van verstuivingen en van konijnen. Met de aanleg van het
Noordzeekanaal in 1865 en de komst van de grote industrieen als de
Hoogovens is de Breesaap in het huidige landschap niet meer te
herkennen. In WOC, deel 30 staat tevens een kaartje uit 1737 van de
Breesaap afgebeeld.
