Notes about Matthijs Hendriksz "Tijs" Mostert

BOUWMAN.

Tijs wordt boer op 'de Ronde Schoorsteen' thans Oostgaag 19 te ML. Hij huurt van de familie van Assendelft 1730-1740. In een boekje over Maaslands verleden staat het verhaal, hoe hij elke zomer de familie in het mooie gedeelte van de boerderij moest huisvesten, voeden en met paard en rijtuig brengen waar zij maar wilden. De huur moest prompt betaald, ook toen er in 1738 en 1739 zeer slechte weersomstandigheden heersten. Het ging niet en in 1740 trok het gezin naar het dorp en in de telling van 1747 is Tijs arbeider, onvermogend. Aan de Oostgaag staat nog een deel van de toenmalige boerderij.
