Berend Jan Wolbers is op dinsdag 22 maart 1836 in Diepenheim (Ov) geboren als zoon van Garrit Hendrik Wolbers en Harmina Vrielink. Hij huwde op 31-jarige leeftijd op vrijdag 30 oktober 1868 in Diepenheim met de 26-jarige Maria Elisabeth Smit, geboren op zaterdag 11 september 1841 in Maastricht als dochter van Karel Joseph Smit en Johanna Maria Agnes Diks. Het echtpaar kreeg 6 kinderen. Berend is voor zijn dienstplicht in 1857 vrjgeloot, maar toen hij ging trouwen zat hij in militaire dienst bij het 1 Regiment Infanterie; van de commandant kreeg hij toestemming om te huwen. Op vrijdag 24 september 1920 overleed op 79-jarige leeftijd Maria Elisabeth Smit in Diepenheim; Berend Jan Wolbers is vervolgens op woensdag 14 september 1927 in Diepenheim op 91-jarige leeftijd overleden.
