Notes about Tarquinius Poppinga

Tarquinius Poppinga werd in 1672 predikant in het Friese dorp Pietersbierum. Als zodanig gaf hij een viertal geschriften uit, te weten: "Heerlijkheid Gods, die schijnt in 't aangezigt van Christus" in 1686, "Ontknooping der swarigheit over de Drie-eenheit" in 1687, "Proeve op de Proeve van Becius, Raad des Vredes" en in 1688 nog een latijns theologisch traktaat waarin hij zich wellicht aan ketterij had schuldig gemaakt. Op grond van dit traktaat zou hij in 1689 vanwege een onjuiste geloofsopvatting door de classis zijn afgezet. Anderzijds wordt ook een controverse tussen hem en Ds. H. Reneman, predikant te Sexbierum, als zeer waarschijnlijke oorzaak van zijn afzetting genoemd (Bron: Van der Aa e.a., Biografisch Woordenboek der Nederlanden, Deel 15, blz.423).
