Cornelis Jacobsz. Kemp huurt negen morgen land in het Land van Stein en heeft er ten slotte een eigen hofstede met drie viertelen land (een viertel is vier morgen groot). In 1546 verkoopt hij de hofstede met het land. Hij zal dan minstens vijftig jaar oud zijn en vertrekt naar Blokland. Daar sluit hij in 1551 een lening af met als onderpanden een eigen hofstede aldaar en een viertel dat hij kennelijk nog bezit in het Land van Stein. Na zijn overlijden wordt hij op de hofstede opgevolgd door zoon Geerlof die de lening in 1557 aflost.10 De boedelscheiding wordt pas in 1563 in Stein geregistreerd: Geerlof koopt dan zijn zuster Anna uit de erfenis van hun vader.
