    opgesteld. Motsch meent - hoewel hij de in 1992 gepubliceerde vermelding van haar Beierse afkomst
    ("Sophia, omni prudentia decoratam de clarissima Bauariorum ortam prosapia") nog niet kende - dat
    ze tot de vooraanstaande Beijerse adelsfamilie van Formbach behoorde, waarschijnlijk een dochter
    van graaf Meinhard V van Formbach en Mathilde van Reinhausen. Heinzelmann meent (in navolging van
    Eduard Hlawitschka) eveneens dat Sophia uit de familie van Formbach stamt en dat ze
    waarschijnlijk met de vrouw van tegenkoning Herman van Luxemburg-Salm identiek is. Hij ovl.
    28.09.1088, waarna Sophia (2) voor 1092 met Stephan van Sponheim getrouwd zou kunnen zijn.],
