Notes about Alijda van Leuverden

Een half jaar nadat ze met haar ouders naar Hilversum was gekomen, raakte de 18-jarige rooms-katholieke Alijda zwanger van de 25-jarige oud-katholieke wever Cornelis Kruimel. Ze trowden en gingen in eerste instantie op Havenstraat 65A wonen. In de loop der jaren verhuisden ze binnen Hilversum geregeld, voornamelijk in de wijk met de straten Zuiderweg, Hertenstraat en Oude Eemnesserstraat. Ze kregen kregen in Hilversum de kinderen Elisabeth (1894), Gilles (1896), Johanna (1897), Wilhelmina (1899), Wilhelmina (1903), Alijda (1904) en Cornelis (1908).
In 1902 verliet Cornelis zijn gezin en ging van mei tot oktober inwonen bij zijn collega wever Jan Tabak. In deze periode nam Alijda de zorg op zich van het één jarig zoontje Gilles van haar ongetrouwde zus Wilhelmina Christina. In verband met een poging tot diefstal werd Cornelis in 1908 gearresteerd en bracht bijna 1½ jaar door in de gevangenis te Amsterdam. Toen Cornelis in de gevangenis zat, had Alijda een verhouding met de getrouwde Jan Groenhuijzen, die ook in Hilversum woonde. Alijda raakte in verwachting en vertrok op 2 juli 1909 met Jan naar Nijmegen waar ze hun intrek namen in logement Lindenberg. Haar dan nog levende kinderen Elisabeth, Johanna, Wilhelmina, Alijda en Cornelis liet ze achter. Deze kinderen werden op 29 oktober uit de ouderlijke macht ontzet en ondergebracht bij een oud-katholiek pleeggezin in Oudewater.
Na zijn gevangenisstraf woonde Cornelis nog acht maanden in Hilversum, maar vertrok op 5 oktober 1910 naar Amsterdam, waar hij tot aan zijn dood bleef wonen. Alijda, die in Nijmegen twee kinderen had gekregen, vertrok in 1912 met Jan Groenhuijzen naar ’s-Gravenhage, waar ze meer kinderen kreeg. Aangezien Alijda niet officieel gescheiden was van Cornelis Kruimel, werden deze kinderen, Maria (1909), Wilhelmina (1910), Johannes (1912), Berta (1913), Albertus (1914), Marinus (1915), Alyda (1916) en Jan (1918), ingeschreven met Kruimel als achternaam.
