Cheffie is met de Rijndam van de Holland Amerika Lijn (HAL) overgestoken naar Canada en op 24-03-1929 in Halifax aangekomen. Dit was zijn tweede trip, want bij aankomst geeft hij op dat hij al van juni 1924 tot maart 1928 in Canada is geweest. Als Tonny hem in 1926 komt opzoeken, geeft deze de plaatsnaam Estevan, Saskatchewan op. De tweede keer gaan ze samen naar Carnduff, Saskatchewan dat ongeveer 92 km ten oosten van Estevan ligt, om te gaan werken als boerenarbeiders bij de heer G. Frith. Hoe Cheffie van Saskatchewan uiteindelijk in Brown County, Wisconsin terecht komt is voorlopig nog onduidelijk, maar dit gebeurt al vrij snel, want in de volkstelling van Wisconsin uit 1930 komt hij al voor.

Verder blijkt uit de immigratiepapieren dat moeder Drika Deeterink in 1926 in hetzelfde huis in de Frans van Mierisstraat woonde, waar later in 1943 zuster Annie met haar gezin zou gaan wonen.
