    RAVESTEYN (Paulus Aertsz. van), geb. in 1586 of 1587, overl. in 1655, zoon van Aert Claesz. en Hester van der Stegen, ondertrouwde te Amsterdam 19 Mei 1608 Elisabeth Sweerts, geb. 24 Juni 1583 (H. Sweerts, Alle de gedichten (1697) 535), dochter van Manuelen Margriete van der Steyn (haar grafschrift t.a. p. 574). Afkomstig uit Noord-Brabant, waar zijn familie later grondbezit had, heet hij in zijn ondertrouw-inschrijving letterzetter uit Dordrecht, in welke plaats hij dus zijne opleiding tot het boekenbedrijf heeft gehad. Als drukker vestigde hij zich te Amsterdam, waar hij in 1611 te voorschijn kwam met zijn mij oudst bekende editie voor eigen rekening, de spreekwoordenverzameling, die Gomez de Trier onder den titel Le jardin de recreation naar een italiaansch voorbeeld, in 1594 te Londen gepubliceerd, vertaald had.
