Zijn ouders trouwden pas toen Ties al twee jaar oud was (1 maart 1905), zijn moeder was weduwe van schoenmaker Cornelus Petrus van den Braak (Oisterwijk 10 november 1870-21 mei 1899) en had ook kinderen uit dat huwelijk. Ties groeide op in Blokshekken. In 1915 begon hij als bosjesmaker op sigarenfabriek De Huifkar. In 1923-1924 was hij dienstplichtig militair. Met zijn vrouw kwam hij op 11 mei 1926 naar Oisterwijk. In 1932 werd hij lid van het Crisiscomité B voor extra steun aan werkverschaffingsarbeiders, vanaf maart 1934 was hij de officiële vertegenwoordiger namens de RK vakorganisatie. Burgemeester Verwiel zou het comité installeren. Deze stond zeer vijandig tegenover SDAP en NVV. Ties kon dat niet hebben. Hij was zelf geporteerd voor een sociale economie die werkte voor gemeenschappelijke welvaart. Hij stond samen met Bartje van der Linden binnen de katholieke bond als ‘rooien’ bekend. Ook Verwiel zag Koster daarna als ‘communist’. Maar volgens Ties Koster beschouwde de burgemeester iedereen die iets zei wat Verwiel niet aanstond als een communist. In de jaren 1933-1935 is Koster secretaris van de katholieke sigarenmakersbond. Hij woont dan in de Canisiusstraat. In de crisisjaren komt hij zelf ook in de werkverschaffing terecht en werkt hij bij De Gulden Vlies (sigarenfabriek van Majoie in Tilburg). Na een conflict met een geestelijke verlaat hij de vakbond en zal hij als ongeorganiseerde in de sigarenindustrie werken. Na de oorlog werkte hij weer voor De Huifkar, hij was een van de Oisterwijkse sigarenmakers die in de jaren vijftig enige maanden naar Zwitserland gaan om daar sigarenmakers op te leiden.
Ties Koster overleed te Oisterwijk op 7 november 1989.
