And wife came to America with the first Hol- landers in 1847. He purchased a farm in 1850 where he remained until his death. He was united in marriage to Miss Mattie de Kock in 1837. He followed farm life and was considered one of the most successful farmers in this vicinity. He held many olfices of trust and honor in the com- munity during his life and he had a great part in the making of it.
